Benedict Cumberbatch Takes a Stand on Equal Pay

Benedict Cumberbatch is talking equal pay in the work place. More specifically, he’s discussing the idea that projects should be passed on if women don’t receive equal pay – and a voice – in the business.

Not only does he disagree with the sentiment of men receiving more, he won’t be tied to any projects where men and women aren’t paid equally. This was shared in a recent interview with Radio Times.

‘Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism. Look at your quotas. Ask what women are being paid, and say: ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.’

Cumberbatch isn’t stopping there. In his production company, SunnyMarch, he’s one of two men on the team.

‘I’m proud that Adam Ackland and I are the only men in our production company; our next project is a female story with a female lens about motherhood, in a time of environmental disaster. If it’s centred around my name, to get investors, then we can use that attention for a raft of female projects. Half the audience is female!’

We can’t wait to see that project, and many more, from Cumberbatch.

You can see him as Doctor Strange now in Avengers: Infinity War.
