It’s been an emotional past 24-hours for Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans after it was announced on Thursday that the extremely popular and beloved comedy series had been canceled by Fox after 5 seasons.
Fans can now rejoice in the fact that the show IS coming back, just on a different network. It was announced in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday that NBC would be rescuing the cop comedy with a 13-episode sixth season!
The cancellation of the series which stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz, and Chelsea Peretti immediately sparked an outrage from fans on social media. Tweets began to fly and petitions were signed and shared in an outpouring of love and support for the series. Brooklyn Nine-Nine quickly became the hottest trending topic on social media just mere hours after its cancellation was announced with A-List celebrities like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Seth Meyers, Guillermo del Toro and Mark Hamill all joining in to lend their voices of support.
All the while, the series was searching to find a new home. Shortly after the cancellation was announced, it looked as if Brooklyn Nine-Nine might have found that new home with Hulu but the streaming giant ultimately decided to pass. Enter, NBC!
According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement:
