Fox’s ‘The Resident’ Renewed for Season 2

It looks like the heart of Fox’s new medical drama The Resident will live on for another season. The Matt Czuchry and Emily Van Camp series was officially renewed for a second season after a year of growing ratings, which are now averaging at about 10 million total viewers per episode.

“Amy, Todd and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before — to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded. Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunettye, and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chasten Memorial for another tremendous season,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment President.

The series follows a young doctor (Manish Dayal) who begins working under Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), a tough and talented senior resident who is willing to peel back the medical curtains and expose the hospital for all of its successes and shortcomings, especially when it comes to the often-morally corrupt Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood).

In addition to The Resident, Fox has also already renewed 9-1-1, Empire, The Simpsons, Orville, Family Guy and The Gifted.

The Resident currently airs on Fox Mondays an 9:00 ET.
