‘The Flash’ Recap ‘Lose Yourself’

The Flash Recap ‘Lose Yourself’

Team Flash tracks down the final bus meta, Edwin Gauss, aka The Folded Man, and realize that he has the ability to enter pocket dimensions, just like DeVoe. Barry and Ralph are at odds over what their next move should be. Harry created a Sonic Scepter, that’s really just a massive tuning fork, that acts in the same was as Izzy Bowin’s powers, which actually affected DeVoe. One strike of the fork will incapacitate, two will kill. Ralph believes that they should kill Thinker before anything else happens, but Barry says it doesn’t have to come down to that. When Ralph tries to get into DeVoe’s lair via Edwin, Barry stops him. Afterward, Ralph reveals that he doesn’t want to kill DeVoe just to save himself. He is doing it to protect all of Team Flash, who has become his family.

Barry admits that Ralph actually had a good idea in using Edwin to get into DeVoe’s lair. He, Cisco, and Caitlin warp into the lair, but DeVoe was expecting them to do just that. When Edwin opened a pocket dimension, so did DeVoe, which means the scanners didn’t pick up his, Mechanic’s, and Samuriod’s arrival. With Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin stuck at the lair, it’s up to Iris, Ralph, Harry, and Joe to stop Thinker. Ralph is too late to save Null, Melting Pot, and Edwin, but the tuning fork does work. He subdues Thinker and goes in for the kill, but stops. Meanwhile, Iris battles Mechanic as she tries to get to the chair and open a pocket for the others to get back. After allowing herself to be stabbed, Iris pushes Mechanic onto the chair and sends her away. Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin appear.

Barry runs down to help Ralph, who has slapped cuffs on Thinker. He thanks Barry for helping him become a true hero. That’s when Thinker says that you should always check to make sure the cuffs are locked. He breaks free, uses Null’s power to subdue Barry, then starts transferring himself into Ralph. Cisco and Caitlin arrive, but Cisco’s powers are messed up and it hurt him a lot to vibe. Thinker knocks Cisco back as Caitlin runs forward. He stops her from stabbing him with ice, then pushes her away. She reverts from Killer Frost to Caitlin. As Barry watches, Thinker transfers into Ralph, who’s final words are his thanks to Barry. Then, he’s gone.

Team Flash is utterly defeated. Barry doesn’t want to talk to anyone, even Iris, and heads to Ralph’s office to pack it all up. During the attack, Harry maxed out the dark matter funneling into his Thinking Cap and overdid it. He also didn’t realize that DeVoe stole some of that dark matter. We don’t quite know what affect all of that had on Harry. As for Caitlin, it turns out that DeVoe used Melting Pot’s abilities when he touched her and erased all the dark matter inside of her. That means that Killer Frost is gone. On the villain side, the cellular degeneration has halted thanks to Ralph’s body. He also uses Ralph’s ability to shift back to his original face. He tells Marlize that they are even closer to the final stage of his plan. They will soon reach enlightenment.

I figured that Ralph would be lost to DeVoe, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen in this episode, and in that way. He had his ups and downs throughout the season, but it still hurt as his final words were a thank you to Barry. Now, Barry will do everything in his power to uphold a promise to Ralph to protect Team Flash. It’s going to be hard for them to move forward from this, and it’s only going to get harder as DeVoe can change to Ralph at any moment and the team will more than likely hesitate. Overall, I think this was a really great episode and a good set-up to the final five episodes of the season.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Fury Rogue.’
