Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt Sign-On for ‘Mad About You’ Revival

Towards the end of 2017, the reboot rumor mill began spinning over speculation that the 1990s hit comedy Mad About You might be on its way to making a comeback.  This week, the series took a major step forward towards development.

On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly reported that original series stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt had officially closed on their deals to reprise their lovable characters, Paul and Jamie Buckman.  EW reports that the two made a deal with Sony Pictures Television along with co-creator Danny Jacobson after months of negotiations.

Back in December, TVLine reported that a revival season would most likely pick up with the lives of the Buckmans struggling with empty-nest syndrome. Their daughter Mabel (fans will remember her name stands for Mother’s Always Bring Extra Love), who would be around 17 years old now, has just been accepted to college and is about to leave home for the first time.

Mad About You officially wrapped in 1999 after seven seasons on the air. During its time on air, the series received five Emmy nominations for Best Comedy with Helen Hunt winning for Best Actress in a Comedy Series four years in a row.

After the success of NBC’s Will & Grace and ABC’s Roseanne revivals, a comeback just may be in the cards for more of our favorite past series to find their ways back to our televisions.
