Ommegang and HBO Reveal Second Royal Reserve Collection Beer
Late last year, Ommegang and HBO announced a special partnership for fans of the hit series, Game of Thrones. While the final season won’t premiere until next year, there are four big reasons to celebrate in 2018.
One of which hits shelves this month in the form of an incredible barleywine. We got to try Ommegang’s Game of Thrones inspired ‘Hand of the Queen’ and it became a quick favorite. So when we heard that the next Royal Reserve Collection edition was announced, we were thrilled.
Via a press release from Ommegang, they discuss paying homage to Cersei Lannister.
‘When we set out to create the Royal Reserve Collection, we knew we had to pay homage the character currently sitting on the Iron Throne. We’re very happy to present this tribute to the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms herself, Cersei Lannister. Cersei is a complex character, and we’ve tried to emulate that profile with this beer, which blends a lovely, dry blonde ale with a subtly tart Belgian sour.’
Queen of the Seven Kingdoms is described as a blonde ale with flavors of citrus and malt. A crisp finish rounds out the taste with a hint of lemon from the peel. The full description is below.
‘Queen of the Seven Kingdoms pours a pale gold color with a brilliant white head. Aromas of melon, citrus, and lactic acidity meld together with fruity esters from the Belgian yeast. Tart citrus flavors soften to sweet malt flavors with notes of apricots. The finish is dry and crisp with a subtle citrus bite from the lemon peel. Queen of the Seven Kingdoms pairs well with sharp aged cheeses and salty cured meats, red meat or dark poultry, and spiced desserts like pumpkin pie or apple tarts.’
No specific date has been listed for the next release, but fans can expect the product to hit shelves this July.
