John Cena confirmed for Duke Nukem Role

Now that Tomb Raider is officially in theaters, with Rampage hot on the trail, it’s time for us to look forward towards the next video game film adaptation. While my dreams of a Zelda movie are still not in the works, another favorite of mine is: Duke Nukem.

Platinum Dunes will be producing the film, and we now have the official word that our leading man has been cast. That man, being Mr. John Cena!

Producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller gave fans the update via interview with CinemaBlend. They confirmed two things: 1) The film is definitely happening and 2.) John Cena is confirmed to be the leading man.

While the news of the casting is extremely exciting, there is still one major thing missing – the script.

“Yeah, that’s what we’re working with now. He is. Yes. We don’t have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn’t like the script I’m sure there’s ways that he could pull out, but right now he’s our guy”

When it comes to the plot for the movie and the tone that goes along with it, Fuller and Form have talked about borrowing inspiration from Miller’s Deadpool  movie.

“We are working on Duke Nukem right now. It’s going to be about tone. That’s about tone. How do you nail that tone in the way that Deadpool nailed the tone? I think we have to do that and if we don’t get the tone right then we’re not going to make the movie.”

Personally, I feel as though John Cena is going to be perfect for this role. For anyone else who has played the game, then you know John Cena will have a way of capturing that personality perfectly.

The 16-time champion has previously starred in The Marine, Trainwreck, Sisters,  Psych, Daddy’s Home 2 and the upcoming Blockers movie.

When asked about how they came up with the casting decision of Cena, Form stated they had a particular type of person in mind:

“He’s got to be an incredible badass, so those are the things that we’re struggling with and we’re going to try and come out with what I hope is a really fun ride. That’s the goal, is for it to be a really fun ride.”

We are certainly excited for this movie!
