Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans Talk Iron Man and Captain America

Marvel

Earlier this year, Robert Downey Jr spoke about Chris Evans and the dynamic between Iron Man and Captain America. He teased that there would still be some conflict between them. However, when Thanos is on a mission for destruction, it would beneath them to let differences keep them apart.

The world depends on them, and whether they want to admit it now or not, they depend on each other.

Chris Evans had this to say to Collider about their on-screen relationship.

‘I don’t think Steve or Tony are ones to hold grudges. I think we operate very binary, utilitarian approach to most things we do, and I don’t think we let emotion dictate our reality. It’s been a couple years, so I think we both, to some degree, not moved on, but maybe buried some things.’

Downey, in a separate interview, had this to say in terms of their relationship now. He went a bit deeper and let fans know what Tony’s thought process would be in terms of reaching out to Steve.

‘To me the big question is could he ever in clear conscience pick up that flip phone Cap sent him at the end of Civil War. That is really it. For me I think back to Obidiah and that deception, and it’s one of those things. It’s why Steve Perry never went back to Journey.’

He went on to say that he believes Tony would still want to punch Steve to a degree. He also said, when working with Chris, he just can’t escape how morally sound and true he is. He just loves Cap and Chris and Chris as Cap.

‘I feel like my instinct would be to bust his jaw. All I know is that there’s something about being on camera with Evans. I hate to say it, but I don’t know what I’m gonna do when he’s not Cap anymore. I look at him and think this is the truest, most down moral psychology I’ve ever seen and then they go, Cut! and Chris is like, Hey buddy, I gotta get out of here. I’m like, You wanna go to dinner? Nope. Okay! Love you! Love you, Cap! I mean, Chris!’

We’re hoping that they have, as Evans said, buried some of what was between them and what they didn’t, they work out. That’s what we’re putting out into the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th.
