There’s a ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ YA Novel in the Works

If going to see the Tony-Award winning musical Dear Evan Hansen on the Broadway stage isn’t quite in the cards for you, you’re in luck because soon the story that swept up the hearts of millions will be available on bookshelves everywhere! The young adult novel will be written by the show’s creators Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul with assistance from author Val Emmich.

“For us, the most powerful and gratifying part of the journey of making this musical has been seeing the ways in which audiences have connected with these characters and their stories. We are thrilled that this novel will be able to bring Dear Evan Hansen to even more people, and we hope that it will continue to spark conversation,” said Levenson, Pasek, and Paul in a statement.

The book will dive even further into the characters that have been brought to life on stage and will expand the story of anxiety-ridden Evan Hansen and the devastating lie he tells after the death of a classmate even further.

“Every so often, millions of readers of all ages can be united by a single powerful coming-of-age story. This year, that story will be Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel. We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take an enormously successful entertainment property and translate it into an intimate, portable experience that can reach well beyond Broadway. Dear Evan Hansen is not just a musical, and the novel will not be just a book; Dear Evan Hansen is a movement, and we can’t wait for everyone to join it.,” said Megan Tingley from publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

The book will be hitting shelves on October 9th!
