Danny McBride says The New ‘Halloween’ Film Will Honor The Previous Movies

40 Years Later, Evil returns home.

Can you believe it has been almost 40 years since John Carpenter’s original Halloween film was released? While you are celebrating this truly amazing fact, fans of the Halloween franchise can also celebrate the fact that we now have a release date for this film: October 19th, 2018.

One thing that is particularly exciting about this sequel for a classic horror girl like me, is the direction that writer Danny McBride and the rest of his staff are taking with this film. Rather than going with a sterotypical and predictable remake, McBride plans on taking us down memory lane…. in addition to some new terror.

This new Halloween is ignoring all of the sequels following the first film, but in an interview with Flickering Myth, McBride they are for sure going to be referenced throughout this new film:

This picks up after the first one. The Halloween franchise has kind of become a little bit of like choose your own adventure, you know like there’s some many different versions, and the timeline is so mixed up, we just thought it would be easier to go back to the source and continue from from there. It was nicer than knowing you’re working on Halloween 11, it just seemed cooler, ‘we’re making Halloween 2‘. We do [reference the other movies]. For fans, we pay homage and respect to every Halloween that has been out there.

It is quite comforting to know that we will be getting references, nods and homages to the nine sequels that followed the original. The question, however, is how?

One of the sequels, H20 introduced us to Laurie Strode’s son… which as it seems would now be irrelevant now that she has a daughter and a granddaughter in the new timeline. Although, this would not be the first time the strode family had a case of appearing and then disappearing family members.

Now that the principal photography has wrapped, the release date continues to tease us as we draw closer to it. All I can say is, we are highly looking forward to this film!

Blumhouse Productions has always done a fantastic job in producing new horror films and remakes alike – so we know that this one is going to be great!
