One week ago, rumors began to swirl that SNL star Kristen Wiig was in early talks to join the DCEU as the iconic Wonder Woman villain Cheetah.  On Friday, those rumors were confirmed.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has confirmed Wiig’s casting via a post on her Twitter page this morning.  In her post, she says, “So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”

Playing the role of a super-villain is new ground for Wiig.  In addition to her SNL days, she also earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing the comedy Bridesmaids and she also starred in the film.

Wonder Woman 2 is expected to hit theaters on November 1, 2019 with Gal Gadot returning as the titular character.
