Benj Pasek and Justin Paul may have just lost the Oscar for Best Original Song to a Disney movie, but they are certainly still big winners in Disney’s eyes! The pair teamed up with Disney powerhouse Alan Menken to write two new songs for the upcoming Guy Ritchie film, and with Menken’s eight Oscar wins, including 2 for the music in 1992’s Aladdin, and Pasek and Paul’s recent win for La La Land, it’s a sure bet that these new songs are already destined for greatness. They announced the news at to Variety at the 90th Annual Academy Awards this past weekend.

“We’re really thrilled that we got to collaborate with one of our heroes Alan Menken. We collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for Aladdin that’s coming out next year. … We’re really excited for that, and really thrilled to be a part of the Disney family.”

The upcoming Aladdin reboot will star Will Smith as the Genie with Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. The film wrapped early this year so hopefully, we will be graced with some teasers and footage coming up soon, but it still is going to be a long wait before the final product hits theaters in 2019.
