‘The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton Makes Powerful Statement in Instagram Post: “Pay The Woman”

If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, and even if you aren’t, it’s been almost impossible to turn a blind eye to the criticism surrounding the series. From major changes in the plot of the story that we’re still adjusting to, to a future with an uncertain outlook altogether, it’s seemingly less of a ‘cemented’ idea that TWD will continue for seasons upon seasons.

With the loss of Chandler Riggs and the impending separation of Lennie James, fans are concerned that the heart of the series is being broken. Recent news about Lauren Cohan only further brought that thought to the forefront of our minds.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cohan is the only cast member to not yet have signed a contract for season 9 of The Walking Dead. It was first reported in February that a pay raise was being sought that would line her up closer to that of her co-stars Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln.

It’s been said that ‘lowball offers’ have caused continued frustration and most recently, news broke that Cohan signed on to star in an upcoming ABC series Whiskey Cavalier. While she can certainly take on both projects, it did send a wave of concern for fans of the series.

Since all of those rumblings began, execs at AMC have spoken out, reassuring fans that they are in negotiations for season 9 of the series. It was announced late February that she has been cast in a pilot for an ABC series.

Not much has been said about the matter by those close to the series, until today.

Khary Payton took to Instagram with a post for Cohan and he certainly isn’t having any more inequality. He’s speaking up on behalf of a powerhouse, not just on The Walking Dead, but within the industry as a whole. He’s using his platform to support a friend.
