Sony’s Live-Action ‘Barbie’ Movie Starring Anne Hathaway Is Being Delayed Two Years

It’s been a long time coming, however, it looks like Barbie isn’t quite ready to hit the big screen just yet.

Last year, Sony announced its plans to develop a live-action film based on the iconic Mattel toy with a release date scheduled in 2018.  On Tuesday, the film company announced that the release date has been pushed back two years to May 8, 2020.

The title role was originally set to be played by Amy Schumer who unexpectedly dropped out of the film citing scheduling and filming conflicts. Anne Hathaway will be playing the role in the film which is aiming to revamp the toy brand by also focusing on topical issues such as self-esteem, what it means to be perfect and female empowerment.

In addition to the release date change for the Barbie film, Slender Man has also been pushed back to August 24th, The Girl in the Spider’s Web starring Claire Foy has been pushed back to November 9th and Holmes and Watson starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly has been pushed back to December 21st.

What do you think of Barbie’s release date shake-up?  Were you looking forward to seeing this film?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
