And the revivals keep on rollin’!  Yet another classic television series is about to be resurrected from the television vault for a revival season.

On Thursday, CBS announced that a new Murphy Brown series was given a 13-episode commitment with the original series’ star Candice Bergen reprising her titular role.

Murphy Brown originally ran from 1988 through 1998 and followed Bergen’s character, an investigative journalist, throughout her life at a major publication.  Throughout its run, the series earned 62 Emmy nominations and walked away with an impressive 18 wins. Candice Bergen won five awards for her role in the series.

During the show’s original 10-year run on CBS from 1988 to 1998, the comedy received 62 Emmy nominations with 18 wins. Bergen won five Emmy Awards before deciding to take herself out of the running for more because, well, she was positively sick with trophies.

The revival will have an updated spin on it, of course, showing the characters interacting with the modern day world.  CBS said the series will, “return to a world of cable news, social media, fake news and a very different political and cultural climate.”

Original series creator Diane English is also on board as writer and executive producer.  Bergen will also be executive producing.  The Murphy Brown revival is being planned to air during the 2018-2019 season.
