Throwback Thursday: Relive Your Childhood When ‘The Dark Crystal’ Returns to Theaters Next Month!

Happy Throwback Thursday!  Today, we’re taking a journey back to your childhood while looking ahead to the future!

Raise your hand if you remember the film The Dark Crystal!  This beloved film is turning 36 years old this year and will be making a return to theaters for a limited time.  As a child, this captivating film tale was my first taste of the fantasy adventure genre and now, as an adult, I am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen for the first time!  For a little bit of nostalgia, check out the trailer for the 1982 classic:

For two days only in February, this classic Jim Henson film will be re-released in over 500 theaters nationwide thanks to Fathom Events.  Mark your calendars and buy your tickets now.  February 25th and 28th will be your opportunity to see the Mystics, the Skeksis and all the wondrous creatures of The Dark Crystal in theaters.

Fathom’s website says the following in regards to the event:

“Another world, another time… in the Age of Wonder. From genius filmmaker Jim Henson comes the fantastical story of The Dark Crystal. Many years ago, the mysterious Dark Crystal was damaged and an age of chaos began, led by the evil race of grotesque birdlike lizards, the Skeksis, who rule with an iron claw. Meanwhile the Gelfling orphan Jen, raised in solitude by a race of peace-loving creatures called the Mystics, embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of the Dark Crystal and restore balance to the universe.

The event will feature a brand-new introduction with Lisa Henson, CEO and President of The Jim Henson Company, who will reflect on the making of the one-of-a-kind film and the legacy of her father, Jim.”

In addition to the film re-release, last year it was confirmed that a Netflix prequel series to the film is in the works. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be a 10 episode series set many years prior to the 1982 film. The series will return to the world of Thra with an all-new adventure. When three Gelflings discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.
