‘The Shannara Chronicles’ Canceled After Season 2 But, There May Still Be Hope for the Series

On Wednesday, it was announced that The Shannara Chronicles television series has sadly been canceled but, there might still be hope for the show to live on!

The series originally premiered on MTV back in 2016 before moving over to the Spike network.  Based on the best-selling books by Terry Brooks, The Shannara Chronicles was one of two new scripted series which debuted on Spike in 2017.  The other new scripted series, The Mist, was also not renewed for a new season.  Both series were canceled just prior to Spike’s transitioning into the Paramount Network.

That being said, there is still hope on the horizon for The Shannara Chronicles.  According to Entertainment Weekly, the series’ production studio Sonar Entertainment, has already begun shopping the series out to other networks in hopes of finding a new home for the show.

In the past several years, we have seen this happen more and more.  A canceled show can very easily be picked up by another network or revived via a streaming platform, for example, ABC’s Nashville moving to CMT or Fox’s Arrested Development which later found a home on Netflix for a fourth season.

So, the end may not officially be the end.  Fingers crossed The Shannara Chronicles can find a new network to call home.

The series stars Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero Manu Bennet, Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow and Gentry White.  It was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar who also executive produced along with Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman and Dan Farah.
