‘True Detective’ Season 3 Won’t Air Until 2019

2019 is still a long way off but it’s shaping up to be a pretty exciting year for HBO!

Not only will HBO’s megahit series Game of Thrones be returning for its final season in 2019 but now, you can add another highly-anticipated series to your “must-watch” list for that year.

On Thursday, HBO programming president Casey Bloys confirmed that season 3 of True Detective would not be gracing our television screens during 2018.  Instead, he said that fans can expect the series to return in 2019.  During a Q&A session, Bloys was pretty straightforward with his response when asked about the series.  He told Entertainment Weekly:

“We couldn’t have it ready for ’18 so you can assume ’19.”

While Bloys wouldn’t reveal any specific details relating to the upcoming new season, he did give the season 3 script his stamp of approval.  Nic Pizzolatto, the original showrunner, will be returning as sole writer for the majority of the series with episode 4 co-written by David Milch.  Jeremy Saulnier will be directing along with Pizzolatto.  In regards to the script, Bloys said:

“I think [the scripts are] fantastic. I’m excited. I think people are going to be very happy.”

Season 3 of True Detective will star Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo. Like season 1, the new season will be returning to a rural setting in the Ozarks.  Ali will be playing a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas named Wayne Hays.

The official logline for the upcoming season says, “The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”

We hope 2019 gets here quickly because we can’t wait to see the next season of True Detective. Are you excited about the new season?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
