Sterling K. Brown is Heading to ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

It looks like Sterling K. Brown will be taking a brief pause from making us cry tears of sadness on This Is Us in exchange for some laughs as it was just announced that he will be network hopping on over to FOX to guest star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Brown will be playing a murder suspect named Phillip Davidson on the cop comedy who will be interrogated by Jake (Andy Samberg) and Holt (Andre Braugher). It will be taking a break from the usual format and will instead be a single storyline episode, focusing solely on Brown’s character.

The episode will be featured in Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s fifth season, which is scheduled to return this spring and is sure to be an exciting moment for Brown who has shared his desire to work with Braugher in the past. When he won the Emmy award last September for his excellent portrayal of Randall Pearson, he became the first African America to win since Braugher took it home for his role in Homicide: Life on the Street in 1998. The two also both attended Stanford.

“I just want to say whether it’s at Stanford or on this stage, it is my supreme honor to follow in your footsteps,” Brown said to Braugher in his speech.

Brooklyn also has Tim Meadows, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jimmy Smits, Bradley Whitford, and Danny Trejo on the docket for guest starring roles this season.
