The latest sitcom that is said to be returning to television in the near future is the 1990s hit comedy Mad About You.
TVLine reports that multiple sources have said “informal talks” have begun between the two stars and Sony Productions which had previously produced the NBC sitcom. The discussions are centering around bringing back the series for a limited time with the original cast of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt though reps from Sony have not confirmed this news.
TVLine reveals that the new episodes would most likely pick up with the lives of Paul (Reiser) and Jamie (Hunt) Buckman struggling with empty-nest syndrome. Their daughter Mabel (fans will remember her name stands for Mother’s Always Bring Extra Love), who would be around 17 years old now, has just been accepted to college and is about to leave home for the first time.
The idea of a Mad About You revival is not necessarily new news. Reiser teased the possibility while out on a press tour for his appearance in the second season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. When asked about the possible series revival, Reiser told People:
“If we can find the story to tell, and anybody’s interested, I’d be open to it. To me, it’s interesting when I see my kids are growing and leaving the house. It’s like, ‘Oh.’ It’s like that moment when you get married. It’s like we’re in a new world that we don’t know the rules of.”
Mad About You officially wrapped in 1999 after seven seasons on the air. After the success of NBC’s Will & Grace revival, a comeback just may be in the cards for more of our favorite past series to find their ways back to our televisions.
