Fans of Aquaman who didn’t get enough of him in Justice League will soon get their fill when his stand-alone film comes out December 21st, 2018. So maybe soon isn’t the word to use, but Aquaman will most definitely be worth the wait.
EW revealed a first look photo from the film today and we see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in all of his…muscled glory if we’re being honest. He looks ready to fight in some type of warehouse and whoever he’s up against probably doesn’t stand much of a chance.
James Wan, director of the film, says that this story is his own take – it’s his film, so fans shouldn’t expect the same Aquaman that they saw in Justice League.
‘It’s going to look very different, it will feel very different — aesthetically, tonally, story-wise — it’s my own take. It’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie.’
In addition, Jason Momoa himself spoke about what to expect from the film. Following suit by saying it’s totally different. In this film, we’ll get Arthur Curry’s life story. From what happened to his parents to discovering his power and not really finding a place where he ‘fits’.
‘Justice League was only a weekend in Arthur Curry’s life. This is a totally different beast. In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to hem. Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.’
James Wan was offered the option to take on the Flash – which Warner Bros believed would be the big success or Aquaman which no one thought possible. We think he made the right choice.
