Ryan Reynolds to Star in Live-Action Pokemon Movie ‘Detective Pikachu’

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is about to take on a whole new kind of role in his next project.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds has signed on to play the titular role in Legendary’s upcoming live-action film Detective Pikachu.

Reynolds will be joining Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) in a film based on the 90s gaming and cartoon sensation, Pokemon.  Reynolds will play everyone’s favorite Pokemon, Pikachu!

The basic plot of the film starts off with Smith’s character’s father being kidnapped.  The teen then sets out on a mission to find his father and enlists the help of his Pokemon pal, Pikachu!  This particular Pikachu just so happens to be great at finding things and takes on the role of lead detective in the kidnapping case.

Like most films these days, all other specifics are being kept tightly under wraps but we do know that Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing the project and that filming is expected to begin mid-January in London.

Reynold’s role is said to be motion-capture based but, it sure will be interesting to see him enter the world of Pokemon.  You can see Reynolds next in the Deadpool sequel which is set to open June 1, 2019.
