Things resolved themselves pretty quickly as we came into episode 807 ‘Time for After’.
Time for After referring to Jadis, finally unlocking Rick from the crate, only to take photos of him in his boxers. She tells him she will be sculpting him “after”. Whatever that means.
We soon find out exactly what she means, as she unleashed some scavengers holding a walker, teeth chomping, ready to devour Rick.
With moves to beat the band, Rick definitely has still got it, and breaks free of several scavengers before pinning Jadis to the ground, forcing her to surrender.
This was an awesome moment, because Rick showed that he won’t back down, and confirmed that we can still believe in him. Hopefully Jadis is being genuine when she finally says she’ll help-if she gets a fourth of the winnings.
Now let’s get to the most frustrating character ever. Eugene.
I found myself shaking my head at him and wishing he felt differently so many times throughout the episode, and Dwight was the saving grace.
The only thing that gives him reprieve is that he’s obviously in turmoil.
We saw many red flags throughout the episode that tell us Eugene is spiraling. He starts out by writing a list with the following categories:
What I Know
What I Know I Don’t Know
Things I Am Unaware of Wholly
The unfortunate part is that Eugene can’t seem to come up with options for any of them.
He confronts Dwight and tells him to stop colluding or he’ll tell Negan, and Dwight tries to make him see the truth-introduces him to what seems to be the theme of the episode-patience.
Food and water are running low, workers are angry. This place is gonna fall. All you have to do to be on the winning side is to stand down. All you have to do is nothing. Let it play out. Can you do that? You’ve heard the screams and smelled the burning skin. Once you do those things you become those things. There’s no gain back no forgetting it.
Eugene still doesn’t listen when Negan threatens his life if he doesn’t help, again. He tries to get the walkers attention with a makeshift musical droid. Dwight takes care of it and we can officially consider these two at odds.
It’s also safe to say that Eugene now has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, as he chugs, and unchugs a bottle of wine while having a mental breakdown.
We also find out that Gabriel is in worse shape than we thought. His organs are failing and according to Eugene, he looks like a “potato and shit casserole.” Also, Eugene is not a very good caretaker.
Daryl, Morgan and Tara take matters into their own hands to let the walkers into the Sanctuary, not listening to Rosita when she warns them to “just let it play out”, and even after Michonne bails on the operation for the same reason.
It’s quite shocking when Rick shows up at the Sanctuary with Jadis and the Scavengers, and sees the walkers gone.
Do you think he’ll find out what his group did before he makes any moves? Do you think Eugene will overcome this rough spot and do the right thing for unselfish reasons? I think we’re all going to need some giggle juice next weekend!
Next weekend is the mid season finale, so we can probably expect some craziness!
