‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Crisis on Earth-X, Part 1’

Supergirl Recap ‘Crisis on Earth-X, Part 1’

We begin on Earth-X, a world where the Nazis won World War II. A group is trying to withstand the regime and have been working on a way to eradicate the Nazis. But they are soon found out and Dark Arrow is sent to kill them. He and Earth-X Guardian get into a fight and Guardian is killed. Now the resistance’s weapon has come under their control.

On Earth-Prime, Barry and Iris are getting ready for their big day, but unfortunately, their superhero friends are bad at responding to RSVPs. As the day of the wedding approaches, everyone travels to Central City. Kara joins Iris, Felicity, and Caitlin at the spa where they ask about Mon-El. Kara is quick to deflect any conversation, saying that things have gotten complicated and she’s glad she was able to bring Alex along. While trying on tuxes, Barry and Oliver talk about getting married, Barry asking if Oliver has thought about trying again with Felicity. Of course he has, but things are a bit messed up in their lives.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Stein and Jax have taken their Firestorm problem to Cisco and Harry, who instantly come up with a way to break them apart. Unfortunately, this will render both of them powerless. Stein is ecstatic that they were able to come up with a cure so quickly. All they’ll have to do is take it after the wedding and Stein can stay behind in Central. Jax isn’t too thrilled, and of course Stein picks up on this. While the others head off to the rehearsal dinner, Stein starts working on a way to give Jax superpowers after they split.

At the rehearsal dinner, Alex is feeling her break-up with Maggie a little hard and is burying her feelings in some scotch when she is joined by Sara. The two of them hit it off and try to finish the bottle themselves. Stein presents the serum to Jax, thinking that he’ll be happy to have powers, but Jax isn’t. Who would be happy that they would gain powers of extreme stickiness? Joe gives a speech celebrating the love between Barry and Iris and thanks them for teaching him how to love again. Oliver then quietly asks Felicity if she will marry him. Her immediate response is no, but then yes, but then no again. Oliver is trying to make sense of it all and the two keep getting louder and louder until finally Felicity yells that she doesn’t want to marry him. And that’s how you end a rehearsal dinner.

The day of the wedding arrives and everyone except Barry and Iris seem to be in not the best of moods. Alex wakes up next to Sara and panics, slipping out of the hotel room unnoticed. When they meet up at the wedding later, Alex is incredibly awkward around Sara and Kara picks up on the one night stand. Jax and Stein are at odds with each other over Firestorm. Oliver and Felicity don’t really speak to each other or make eye contact at the wedding.

The ceremony begins with Kara singing a song that brings Iris down the aisle. The priest starts his spiel, talking about the love Barry and Iris have for each other. When he gets to the point where he asks if anybody has any objections to their union, he is vaporized.

Dark Supergirl appears along with a host of Nazis led by Dark Arrow and Dark Prometheus. A fight breaks out in the church. Barry and Wally run around stopping bullets and getting people to safety. Oliver goes after Dark Arrow, Kara after Dark Supergirl, while Sara and Alex take on Dark Prometheus. Oliver and Kara both struggle against their adversary as they are completely matched in skills. Sara and Alex manage to defeat Prometheus. Dark Supergirl is about to do some major damage to Kara when she pulls out a new power, clapping her hands together and creating a song wave that knocks Dark Supergirl out and hurts the ears of everyone in the church. Dark Arrow abandons his fight with Oliver to rescue Dark Supergirl, then the Nazis retreat.

Everyone gathers at S.T.A.R. Labs trying to figure out their next course of action. Mick used the Legends mind-wipe device to restore everyone’s memories to before the wedding, aka all their identities are safe. Cisco was knocked out during the battle and is unconscious, but he’ll be okay. Sara and Jax escort Prometheus to the pipeline. Barry asks Wally to get Joe and Cecile away from Central City and keep them safe. They don’t know why these people are here or how they know everything about them.

Up on a rooftop, Dark Arrow and Dark Supergirl are joined by Dark Reverse-Flash. He removes his hood, revealing Harrison Wells and scolds the two. He told them that they were supposed to wait until everything was ready. Dark Arrow removes his mask, and it’s Oliver Queen, and says that the wedding was the perfect opportunity to catch them off-guard. He admits that Kara is stronger than they thought. Dark Supergirl removes her mask as well, and yup, it’s Kara Danvers. She says that they will get what they want and kill all the heroes.

This was a great start to the crossover event. It was a little slow in the beginning just because there was a lot to set up, but man, that battle in the church was awesome. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for the remainder of the event. Like the producers and cast teased, there is definitely going to be higher emotional stakes this year over last and we can already see it. Oliver/Felicity, Stein/Jax, and Alex are going to be the emotional threads that continue through all the episodes. I’m excited.

The crossover event continues, and concludes, tonight with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Be sure to check out the recap of the second episode of the crossover!
