CMT’s ‘Nashville’ Will End With Season 6

Back in April, Nashville stars Charles Esten and Hayden Panettiere happily shared the amazing news that the hit CMT series was picked up for a 6th season.  Fans of the series rejoiced after hearing the news, especially since the series had been canceled once before.  Earlier this week, however, CMT shared the sad news that season 6 will be the end of the road for the series.

Nashville first got its start on the ABC network running for four seasons and ending its fourth season on a massive cliffhanger.  Thanks to the power of fans and Lionsgate skillfully shopping the series for a new network, Nashville found a new home on CMT.

The series has been doing seemingly well with fans and even delivered some of its most emotional punches last season, however, the writing was pretty much on the wall back when the 6th season renewal came through.  When the announcement was made, it was also revealed that the 6th season would only contain 16 episodes, as opposed to the typical 21 or 22 episodes revealing an uncharacteristically short season.  According to Entertainment Weekly, the 16-episode season will air in two parts with the series finale taking place at some point during summer of 2018.

Stars of the series took to social media to express their gratitude to fans for sticking with the series through its highs and lows.  Check out some of the posts from the series’ stars below:

Nashville has been my home for the last 6 years and I have so much love for the city and the inspiring people that also call it home. Nashville the TV show has been more than just a actors job. It’s been a life changing journey. I’ve made friendships that I’ll treasure, found people that I love dearly and made music with some of the finest humans and most creative musicians. Tonight I get to play @bluebirdcafetn with one of my family @howlinformydarlin and take it full circle. The Blue Bird was where our show began and certainly where the magic happened for Gunnar. Thank you to all the devoted #nashies that have tirelessly supported our show and traveled the world to see us perform. We’d be nothing without you guys. Thank you for a beautiful 6 years and I look forward to bringing you the final chapter of @nashvillecmt in January and seeing you on the road. Lots of love. X

Executive producer Marshall Herskovitz had some parting words for the fans which he shared in a press release.  Herskovitz said,

“All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show’s fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters and we want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns — and amazing music! — that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years.”

Chairman of the Lionsgate Television Group Kevin Beggs also shared his sentiments in the press release by saying:

“After more than 120 episodes of unforgettable television, we believe that creatively it is time for the series to come to its triumphant close at the end of the upcoming season.  We’re very proud of our incredibly talented cast and crew, the creative brilliance of our showrunners, and the loyal support of our great partners at CMT, Hulu, and ABC Studios. Most importantly, we owe a special debt of thanks to the Nashville fans who propelled the series to an incredible run. We owe it to them to make the sixth season the most exciting and memorable of all.”

The 6th and final season of Nashville will premiere on Thursday, January 4th at 9 PM EST on CMT.  Check out the sneak peek of the upcome final season below:
