Ray Fisher Discusses Cyborg’s Reluctance to Join the Team in Justice League
During a recent press conference for the upcoming release of Justice League, Ray Fisher (Victor Stone/Cyborg) addressed the duality of Cyborg and his reluctance to join the team.
“I think in a lot of ways, Cyborg is super reluctant to join the team because of the trauma that he’s had due to his accident and the fact that he can’t live a normal life the way that the other members can. He can’t take off his costume and just walk the streets and assume a different identity. He’s both Victor Stone and Cyborg, 24/7.”
Fisher explains that Justice League was a three year process so there was plenty of time in order to develop and understand the character, which he says was absolutely essential. Zack Snyder connected Fisher with screenwriter Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman, Justice League), and the two were able to discuss the future of the character and where they wanted Cyborg to eventually go.
“[Cyborg’s] super deep, and I think him being able to put the negative notions aside, about himself and about his powers, is sort of what this is all about. And being able to become a part of the team, the way he once was when he was an American football player. So I hope it resonates with the fans.”
Justice League opens in theaters with a Cyborg solo film scheduled for 2020.
