Joe Biden and Lady Gaga to Create Centers for Sexual Assault Survivors

During Glamour‘s Women of the Year Summit on Monday in New York City, Joe Biden spoke about a project he’s working on closely with Lady Gaga and it’s something that will help change the way sexual assault survivors live after their tragedy.

Women who are abused end up having long-term physical and physiological problems. I’m working with Lady Gaga now… we [want to] set up trauma centers where women can go to get the long-term help they need to deal with these crises… We finally are recognizing the long-term impacts on the health of women and men who’ve been abused. It’s the next great frontier I want to be part of.

Right now, victims of sexual assault with large platforms are banding together to come forward with their painful experiences. Not only is this opening the floor for conversation in Hollywood about the gross abuse of power, it’s allowing those who look up to these actresses to use their own voices, too.

As Biden said, there are many long-term physiological and physical problems as a result of sexual assault and keeping quiet out of fear only stands to make those problems larger.

Biden went on to say that there are so many brave women who have come forward and that it’s past time to change the culture of the way women are treated in society.

So many brave women have come forward, and it’s hard to come forward… don’t let this slow up. This is time to fundamentally change the culture of how women are treated in American society. The culture is changing because so many brave women — knowing they were going to be vilified — are coming forward… Look at all these men have rightfully lost, now. Million dollar contracts! That wouldn’t have happened a year ago, five years ago, 10 years ago, so keep pushing.

Biden and Lady Gaga have worked together previously on another sexual assault campaign #ItsOnUs.

The new project is still in the early stages of creation but in the meantime, you can check out ItsOnUs and see how to make a difference, too.
