The Flash Recap ‘Elongated Journey Into Night’
Now that Team Flash knows they were the cause of 12 new metahumans, they start trying to figure out who they all are. They find clues that an ex-detective named Ralph Dibny was on the bus. Unfortunately, Barry and Ralph do not like each other. During one of Barry’s first cases, he revealed that Ralph planted evidence in order to convict the husband. Ralph lost his job. When confronted by Joe and Barry, Ralph denies that he was on the bus. But they aren’t his only visitors. When Joe and Barry leave, men grab Ralph, take him to the roof, and dangle him over the edge until he gives them information. Ralph’s legs start to stretch.
They take him back to S.T.A.R. Labs where Caitlin runs tests to figure out how to get him back to normal. Barry asserts that they lock him in the pipeline because he is a bad guy. It turns out that the men that were interrogating Ralph were from the mayor’s office. Ralph found out that the mayor had cheated on his wife and was blackmailing him. Barry is even more convinced that Ralph is a villain and needs to be locked up. But after a talk with Caitlin about how scared she felt when she woke up with abilities, Barry slowly starts to come around. Sometimes you just need someone to believe in the good inside of you.
While the rest of the team deals with Ralph, Cisco has his own problem. Gypsy’s father is in town and he does not like Cisco. Breacher tells Cisco that he is going to hunt him. Cisco has 24 hours to evade Breacher. If he catches Cisco, he’ll kill him. And they both can’t use their powers. Cisco spends most of the time running, but after a talk with Harry, realizes that he needs to be on the offensive. He sets a trap, actually managing to catch Breacher. But Papa has a trick up his sleeve, well, a special knife that allows him to cut through the barrier Cisco placed around him. The chase is on yet again. But when Breacher sees Ralph in the med bay, he remembers the elastoids that destroyed his home and targets him.
Ralph sets up a meeting with the mayor, saying that he will remain quite and leave him alone for a large sum of money. The mayor has another idea and is going to kill him when Breacher appears. Barry runs in, but Breacher is incredibly powerful. That’s when Cisco shows up and stops him. The mayor escapes during the chaos, taking Joe with him. After the confusion has been cleared up, Barry asks Ralph to help him save Joe. Ralph asks why he should trust the Flash. Barry reveals his identity and says that Ralph can do the right thing and be a hero again. Ralph throws his arm, catching the helicopter the mayor was escaping in. Barry then runs up Ralph’s arm and saves Joe, who finally tells Barry that Cecile is pregnant.
Breacher acknowledges Cisco’s relationship with his daughter, but still hates him. He and Gypsy head off to stop a breach, and he reveals her true name, Cynthia, to Cisco. Breacher’s name is Josh. Cisco has a good laugh at their names, saying they aren’t so scary now. Gypsy warns him to keep using her real name.
Caitlin returns home after celebrating Joe’s good news to find a message on her door from her old boss, Amunet. So I’m guessing that we’re going to be seeing her next week and learn what Caitlin was doing during her break from Team Flash.
The final scene of the episode is Barry asking Ralph to join Team Flash. He says that he can help him become a real detective again. It won’t be an easy road, but it will be rewarding. Ralph asks if he gets a cool name. Barry comes up with “Elastic Man,” but Ralph vetoes that one. Barry then asks how Ralph knew to look into the mayor’s business. Ralph explains that he got a phone call with the tip. All the man gave was his last name, DeVoe.
I was a little surprised that Team Flash is finding out this early in the game who they’re up against. They don’t know much about DeVoe, just what they heard from Savitar and Abra Kadabra. It will be interesting to see how the team proceeds now that they know DeVoe has been pulling the strings.
Cisco and Breacher were hilarious and I really hope they find a way to bring Danny Trejo back. His cold demeanor against Cisco’s frantic awkwardness was so good.
Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Girls Night Out.’
