Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln Talk Blood and Death in Season 8 of ‘The Walking Dead’

We’re only days away from the season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead and just when we thought we’d prepared ourselves, something new comes along. We’ve heard everything from this season being like Die Hard to needing to expect some big character deaths and we’re still trying to figure out how we’ll handle it all.

So when Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln recently spoke with the Daily News, they gave us more to try to balance on our already full plates. For starters, Andrew Lincoln said something similar to Tom Payne’s recent statement in an interview as well.

I think that this season is a payoff to last year. We move quicker and cover more story per episode than we’ve ever done. The stunts, the explosions, the special effects have all jumped up a gear.

We’ve heard that we should anticipate more action and we’re really looking forward to how season 8 will play out so differently than season 7. We can’t say we hated last season, or even that we really disliked it…there were definitely parts we could have lived without, but it happened for a reason. Now, that’s not to say we agreed with every decision made, but we’re also interested in seeing how those play out in the upcoming episodes too.

Some of those decisions will lead to bloodshed, and Jeffrey told the interviewer that he spends a lot of time covered in it.

There’s a lot of blood this year. It’s gross. I don’t think I’ll forget this year because of how much fake blood I got on me. I still have blood on me from working Thursday night…and what is it Saturday now?

Clearly, Jeffrey being bloodied up means Negan is still taking lives and breaking our hearts in the meantime. However, that blood could very well be the blood of his own team and we certainly do hope to see some of the Saviors go.

There are some fans who still want to see Negan go right now too, and sometimes the anger that should be directed at his character gets directed at him personally. Especially after that season 7 premiere.

There was crazy mail, for sure, some people have my death all planned out, not only as Negan but probably as Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

We still can’t understand the targeted hate actors receive for playing characters, but we sure hope that dies down in season 8. Even if we have no idea what it’ll bring.

Speaking of the unknown, Andrew said something in the interview that sort of made us feel strange, even though it’s something that’s been talked about more now than ever before. Rick will eventually be…dead…on The Walking Dead. He can’t survive it all.

There comes a point where there are too many gray hairs on your chin. I think the audience deserves an end game.

He went on to say that he would want some answers if he were watching it as a fan, even if it means that someone important has to go.

It’s a lot of time to invest in a story without some kind of resolution. If I was watching it I would want some answers, something, and if that means the demise of a central character or a principal character, then I’m willing to take the medicine.

We still hope that’s a long way out, though. We mean, they made it to 100 episodes, we’re anticipating at least 100 more.

The Walking Dead premieres on October 22nd on AMC, and we’ll start to see the pieces come together then.
