Gillian Anderson Says Goodbye to ‘The X-Files’ After Eleventh Season
Say it ain’t so!
While promoting the eleventh season of The X-Files at New York Comic Con, Gillian Anderson shared some shocking news: the upcoming season will be her curtain call. When asked if she had any interest in continuing beyond season eleven, she responded, “No, no. I think this will be it for me.” However, she seemed to leave the door open for the possibility of returning, when asked if she’ll miss the series. “You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door. You know, there’s always been this may one more thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut call me up and ask me that question again.”
Anderson also explained why she chose to come back for this season – whose trailer debuted during the panel. “Because it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.”
As for the future of The X-Files, Gillian said she couldn’t “definitely answer” whether the show could go without her, but that “there are more stories to tell.”
The new season of The X-Files arrives on FOX this January.
