Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Series Will Likely Continue Beyond 4 Seasons

Netflix's 'Stranger Things' Series Will Likely Continue Beyond 4 Seasons

We’re just weeks away from a brand new season of the mega-hit Netflix series Stranger Things and we can’t wait to see what season 2 has in store for our favorite residents of Hawkins, Indiana.

Fans of series went into a little bit of a panic mode recently when the Matt and Ross Duffer let slip that they only intended for the series to be a total of four seasons.  The brothers told New York Magazine, “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out.”  Panicked fans quickly realized this meant their favorite show was nearly half over already!

Luckily for us, it sounds like there will still be some more Stranger Things on the way beyond season 4 though, not by much.  Executive producer Shawn Levy delivered the uplifting news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.  He said:

“Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the Brothers made four seasons sound like an official end, and I was suddenly getting phone calls from our actors’ agents.  The truth is we’re definitely going four seasons and there’s very much the possibility of a fifth. Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely.”

Are five seasons better than four?  According to the Duffer Brothers, they expect the show to run long enough to not overstay their welcome or to question their credibility.  Ross Duffer said:

“It’s not wrapped up this season.  I think [season 2] will be a satisfying end but there’s still danger out there. There’s too much to deal with in one more season. If we’re able to, there will be at least four, there could be more. I think there’s going to come a point where why aren’t these people leaving Hawkins? Like we’re going to stretch credibility. It wasn’t intended to be a seven-season thing.”

Which is also a solid point and a testament to the Duffer Brother’s commitment to telling the story that needs to be told.  They aren’t looking to stretch out a plot line or fill a season with fluff because it’s simply not necessary.  Matt echoed his brother’s remarks by adding:

“It’s not built to sustain that as a narrative. After it became successful, we had one of those big meetings with Netflix over dinner and they were like ‘We don’t want this going on that long.’ They were very supportive of it. It’s stupid to put an end date on it right now because we don’t know.”

For now, we’re just happy that season 2 is on its way!  Season 2 of Stranger Things will hit Netflix on Friday, October 27th on Netflix.  Are you ready to journey back to the Upside Down?
