Netflix Original Series ‘Big Mouth’ Review

Well, they don’t make animation like they used to. Netflix released its newest original animated series ‘Big Mouth’. Netflix has played around with animation for a couple of years now with ‘BoJack Horseman’ and ‘F is for Family’. However, ‘Big Mouth’ is in a category all its own.

‘Big Mouth’ is centered around a group of teenage friends who have hit puberty and in the case, puberty has hit back. I know this may sound like a great way to explain the birds and the bees to your own child, however, I must stress this is NOT FOR CHILDREN and to be honest there were points it WAS NOT FOR ADULTS EITHER.

In this series, you meet Nick Birch (Nick Kroll) and Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney) who are best friends that face the trials of puberty together. They live through a lot of first like girlfriends to well umm well dear readers girlfriends are pretty much the only things I feel comfortable telling you about here. We also meet their friends Jessie (Jessi Glaser), Missy (Jenny Slate) and even the ghost in Nick’s attic Duke Ellington (Jordan Peele). I should not leave out their friends the Hormone Monster (Nick Kroll voices as well) and Hormone Monstress (Maya Rudolph) because they are of course behind every bad decision, embarrassing moment and well any other “moments” you can think of.

At this point, dear readers I again I must say this is not for children. This is for adults and again it might be a little too much for some adults. I love animation aimed at adults. The Simpson’s paved the way, however, Family Guy opened the door for adult humor cartoons and I love them all. I found ‘Big Mouth’ funny but there were moments that even I got embarrassed and looked around the room to make sure no children were present and I don’t even have children in my home. So if you have a sick twisted sense of humor, love these type of cartoons or you just really do not want to explain to your child the facts of life then ‘Big Mouth’ is the series for you.
