Hugh Hefner to be Buried next to Marilyn Monroe

When news broke of Hugh Hefner’s death less than a week ago, it was the talk of social media. Death always takes us by shock, even though we know that none of us are invincible.

Immediately, those who knew Hefner sent their condolences to his loved ones and those who cared for him. A personal statement was released by Hefner’s son and many friends and colleagues he’d made along the way.

Hefner’s son, Cooper, the chief creative officer of Playboy Enterprises said this about his father and his impact on cultural movements.

‘My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom. He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history. He will be greatly missed by many, including his wife Crystal, my sister Christie and my brothers David and Marston, and all of us at Playboy Enterprises.’

It was soon revealed that Hefner would be buried next to Marilyn Monroe, who graced the cover of the first issue of Playboy in December 1953. The two never met, but she helped shape Playboy, and in turn, his life.

The cemetery is also the final resting place for some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Today, Hefner was laid to rest there and the private ceremony was attended by his wife and children.
