AMC is Finally Allowing ‘The Walking Dead’ to Broadcast the F-Word
If you guys were paying attention last night during Fear the Walking Dead, you would have heard something that isn’t usually a part of AMC’s vocabulary.
The F-word. Dun dun dunn!
That’s right, FTWD’s main character, Nick Clark uttered the phrase when he discovered a huge herd of zombies hobbling toward the community. Strangely enough, this isn’t the first time AMC has let the F-word slip. Shows like Preacher and Halt and Catch Fire have used colorful language like this in some of their episodes.
So it looks like it’s going to be The Walking Dead’s turn soon. Previously, TWD has had to be careful when it comes to the show’s language.
If you follow the comics, TWD has Negan, who loves the F-word, but because of AMC’s policies, he has had to watch his mouth.
The good news is that AMC has changed it’s policy on language, but there’s a catch according to Dave Erickson, FTWD’s showrunner.
“You get a specific number of curse words you can say, and then there’s a list of what you can and can’t do… I think it was our script coordinator who told me there was an email had come up; there had been a memo saying we could now say “f—” twice over the course of an entire season.”
Negan still can’t go crazy when he delivers his monologues, but he will get to have some fun. Unfortunately, fans may have to wait until season 8 to hear some of Negan’s best profanities.
Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season (and 100th episode!) on October 22, 2017.
