Scott M. Gimple Says ‘The Walking Dead’ All Out War Storyline Will Be Resolved Within Season 8

We are getting closer and closer to the premiere of The Walking Dead‘s 100th episode and the start of season 8 and, this season, we are promised an all-out war!

While fans are super excited to watch the epic events from the comics unfold on television, there are some concerns which have been voiced around the internet.  One such concern is that events leading up to and involving the All Out War story arch will be dragged out over the course of the season and that we may not even get to see the final showdown between Alexandria, Hilltop, The Kingdom and the Saviors until season 9!  That would quite possibly be the worst thing that could happen this season but, fear not! Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have confirmation that this will not be the case!

EW spoke with The Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple and, of course, couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask him the questions that are weighing heavy on most fans’ minds – When will All Out War start and how long will it last?  In an uncharacteristically definite response, Gimple replied:

“The war will absolutely be resolved by the end of season 8.  Absolutely.”

While Gimple’s clear confirmation that we will see all of the war within season 8 should come as a relief to fans, it will also raise a lot of questions as well.  If we remember back to just a few months ago, the San Diego Comic-Con trailer for season 8 left us all in complete shock by ending on that “Old Man Rick” scene.  Fans of the comics know this is referencing a time jump which happens sometime after the all-out war storyline is completed.  This adds validity to Gimple’s response.

Additionally, fans may be questioning when we will get to see another group from the comics make their first appearance in the television series.  For years now, we’ve heard mumbles and speculation surrounding The Whisperers and their leader Alpha appearing The Walking Dead television universe but we haven’t quite seen them yet.  EW asked Gimple if they will finally be making a debut in season 8.  Once again, Gimple was quite definite in his answer though, this time, he responded with a definite “no comment.”  He said, “I’m going to give you a full no-comment on that.”

So, we’ll have to wait and see just what season 8 of The Walking Dead has in store for us in regards to storylines but, rest assured, war is coming!

Season 8 of The Walking Dead is just a little over a month away.  The new season will premiere on Sunday, October 22nd at 9 pm on AMC!  We can’t wait!
