Edie Falco says a lot is Unknown About the Menendez Murders

If you’re anything like us, you’re looking forward to Law & Order, True Crime: The Menendez Murders. We’re massive fans of crime television and film, and when we heard that Law & Order, True Crime was taking on this specific case, our interest was absolutely peaked.

The case is that of Lyle and Erik Menendez, convincted of murdering their parents, Mary (Kitty) and Jose in 1989. The trial brought to light allegations of years of psychological and sexual abuse which drove them to kill their parents. Lyle and Erik were found guilty and both are serving life in prison without the possibility of parole.

However, the actions of Lyle and Erik after the murders made many believe that they were nothing more than selfish children who were after the inheritance of their parents. None know this more so than those who have been involved with the case, and one of those people is Edie Falco, who is taking on the role of Leslie Abramson in the limited series. Abramson was the defense lawyer for Lyle and Erik and she believes that many facts weren’t included in the trial and that it left a lot of people misguided.

It makes me sad that they weren’t included in the trial, and that people feel the way they do about this situation with knowing actually so little about it.’

While Falco wouldn’t get into whether or not she feels like the Menendez brothers should be behind bars, she said she was reluctant to speak about it, she did say that the details do weigh on her opinion – especially now.

I’m not really a lawyer, so there’s all kinds of things that I don’t know. There’s quite a few more details to the story than we were made aware of. And yes, it’s definitely about the Menendez murders, but it’s about … a lot of trials in general, where you feel like you can make a snap judgment because you’ve been fed things, when in fact there’s so much more to it, and there are real people behind this stuff.

You can see Law & Order, True Crime: The Menendez Murders on September 26 at 10 pm on NBC.
