‘Arrow’: How will William affect Oliver’s Public Life?
In the fourth Season of Arrow, Oliver discovered the biggest shocker anyone could possibly uncover – he was a father. It wasn’t until the season five finale that William not only discovered that Oliver was the Green Arrow, but that Oliver was also his true father.
Now, with the sixth season on the horizon we find ourselves asking the question – How will Star City react to the discovery of Oliver Queen being a father?
Sure, Oliver was known for his reckless and ‘ladies man’ ways over 10 years ago, but since then Oliver has been a changed man. The city has grown to respect him as the mayor, with quite a few speed bumps along the way.
Executive producer Wendy Mericle recently revealed in an interview with TVLine that this reveal will have an impact on Oliver’s public life. Mericle admitted that delving into scandal is a ‘great idea”, hinting at the notion that a real life mayor having a long-lost son of 10 years would certain cause a major scandal.
“We are definitely exploring this notion of what is it like for Oliver to have a kid and be in the spotlight in the city. We are going to be using that as a platform to tell some stories, because it’s just a natural place to go. It gives us an opportunity to tell political stories from a different perspective.”
If there is one thing we learned from the Susan Williams chronicles last season (even before her, to be quite honest) it is that Oliver and his team know how to handle a scandal – ugly at first, but it all turns out good and well in the end.
Also remember, this won’t be the first time that the discovery of William in Oliver’s life will cause disruption. In Season Four, Felicity broke up with Oliver after she discovered that not only did he keep her in the dark about having a son, but he also didn’t consult her in his ultimate decision to send him away
Arrow will return on October 12th, 2017 at 9PM/EST on The CW.
