If you were to ask Sebastian Stan for any hints as to what we can expect from Avengers: Infinity War, he’d say he knows none. While most of the time, we’d be hesitant to believe that an actor knows so little about a project that they’re such a big part of, this is a film that’s been 10 years in the works and Joe and Anthony Russo have given it everything they’ve got.
‘It certainly is the biggest culmination of anything and everything they’ve done so far. It’s just going to be bigger and crazier than anything.’
So, aside from the scenes he’s in (where Bucky is just, as usual, trying to figure out where he’s at) Sebastian just doesn’t know what to expect. In fact, even when he’s filming, he’s not always sure what’s headed his way. He referenced an intense scene in Game of Thrones’ ‘Battle of the Bastards’ episode where Jon Snow is just standing in the middle of a stampede.
Sebastian told MTV that he isn’t quite certain if he’s making it out.
‘I feel a lot like that Jon Snow character in ‘Battle of the Bastards. When there’s that shot of Jon Snow, from the back as horses are charging at him and he’s just standing there, that’s kind of how I feel on set at times. Will I make this stampede or not?’
So, while that’s to be expected, we have to admit – if Bucky Barnes perishes in Infinity War, we would have a Winter Soldier shaped hole in our hearts forever.
The interviewer, like many marvel comic fans, asked Sebastian if we’d see him take on that shield. We don’t want to give too much away if you’ve not read them, and apparently neither do the Russo brothers or Sebastian himself.
‘It’s just speculation.’ Sebastian said, before continuing to ramble about not even knowing what to say if someone asked him that. When the interviewer laughed and reminded Sebastian that he just did, he got back on track and gave a perfectly scripted response.
‘We’ve all just gotta survive this war, first of all.’
Well said, Sebastian. You’ve secured your spot in the MCU by giving all of us absolutely no hint at a direction for the future at all.
It’s alright though, the Winter Soldier is still our favorite.
