The Synopsis for ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 is Here

Fans of The Walking Dead have been anticipating the arrival of season 8 since before season 7 even drew to a close. The deaths, the broken spirits those deaths left behind, and the way Negan ran what was left of the world with a barbed wire bat.

It was incomprehensible, but as the season went on those who stuck it out realized that the seeds were being planted to flip the script entirely. Negan’s reign couldn’t keep up the pace and severity in which it was going forever, and the season 7 finale was absolute proof of that.

All it took was one moment, one moment where Negan wasn’t in charge of every single detail, for his plan to be thrown off. In those few moments, he felt fear, and it allowed a break to be exposed in his armor. That break was all it took for those fighting in the name of good to step in and begin their own battle.

Negan isn’t the only one with a mission now, he’s not the only one with power. So season 8 is going to be that ‘all out war’ but more than that, it’s going to be a wake-up call. Ruling with fear and without compassion may work for a while, but ruling with brotherhood and with light will outlast.

The synopsis for the upcoming season is as follows.

Last season, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet. With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be.

Feeling powerless under Negan’s rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn’t be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors.
This season, Rick brings “All Out War” to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless — but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.

Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom — Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.

Casualties. We know they’re coming, it’s inevitable. Steven Ogg already said that season 8 will ‘thin the herd’ and Chandler Riggs said that there will be more killing in the next season so while we know – realistically – that characters we love will perish. Here’s hoping we see more deaths within The Saviors than we do anywhere else.

With the power seen in the last few moments of season 7, the way the three groups came together to fight as one, and how personally – there was growth within every single person who took a stand against Negan, we have more hope than ever that the war is no longer one sided. In fact, if one were to assume it was – we’d bet on the Saviors losing, both in death and in falling apart from the inside. Those cracks in Negan’s armor, they also stood for cracks in his leadership.

Here’s hoping for a few more breaks.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 22nd.
