Season 3 of ‘True Detective’ Officially Greenlit at HBO, New Details Released
After years of speculation and rumors, we finally have official confirmation that True Detective will officially be back for a third season. HBO has finally officially greenlit the series and, as an added bonus, they have also released tons of new details too!
Earlier this year, it was announced that Mahershala Ali had signed on for the series. Now that things are officially moving ahead, we also know that the show will be reverting back towards its season 1 roots. Season 2 was set in the city of Los Angeles however, like season 1, the new season will be returning to a rural setting in the Ozarks. Ali will be playing a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas named Wayne Hays.
HBO has also released a brand new logline for the upcoming season which says, “The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”
Nic Pizzolatto, the original showrunner, will be returning as sole writer for the majority of the series. Episode 4 will be co-written by David Milch as well who was brought on to help fully shape the season. Jeremy Saulnier will be directing along with Pizzolatto.
Pizzolatto commented on his excitement in a statement by saying, “I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”
