Listen to the New Voice of Kermit the Frog

Muppet fans may have noticed that Kermit the Frog has undergone some changes recently.  He’s gotten a bit of a muppet makeover if you will.

About a month ago, news broke that Steve Whitmire (aka. the voice of Kermit the Frog) had been fired from his role with the Muppets and Disney.  Kermit’s recognizable voice would now be provided by a new actor, Matt Vogel.  This week, Vogel made his debut as Kermit during a YouTube clip for the Muppet Thought of the Week.

“Dreams are how we figure out where we want to go. Life is how we get there. I’m headed this way.  My mistake, it’s this way,” Kermit (aka. Vogel) says in the video.  We are certainly impressed with Vogel’s performance.  His vocal delivery is almost perfect despite a few tiny differences.  Check it out:

The clip debuted Vogel’s new vocal talents without there being a big announcement from Disney but fans certainly noticed.  The lack of fanfare surrounding the change is most likely due to the circumstances involved with Whitmire’s firing.  A month ago, Whitmire had publically denounced Disney for his firing stating the was too outspoken about their choices made regarding his character.  Disney and The Muppets Studio, however, claimed Whitmire was let go due to “unacceptable business conduct.”

Kermit the Frog was originally voiced by Muppet creator Jim Henson, however, Whitmire had taken over the role after Henson’s passing in 1990.  Vogel is also a longtime actor associated with the Muppets and, based on his spot-on delivery in the above clip, it’s safe to say Kermit’s iconic voice will continue to be heard.

What do you think of Vogel’s performance as Kermit the Frog?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below?
