WATCH: The First Look at the Television Reboot of ‘Heathers’ Drops During the MTV VMAs

Sunday night’s MTV VMAs gave us our first look at the new television reboot of the 1988 cult classic film Heathers!

The series will kick off with a 10-episode season set in present day with an updated twist to the classic characters.  Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) will be a lesbian in the upcoming series and will be portrayed by Jasmine Mathews.  Heather Duke (originally played by Shannen Doherty) will be transgender whose real name is Heath.  This role will be played by Brendan Scannell.  Heather Chandler (originally played by Kim Walker) is said to be a character similar to Martha Dumptruck and will be played by Melanie Field.  Rounding out the casting is James Scully who will be playing the role of J.D. (originally played by Christian Slater), Grace Victoria Cox who will be playing Veronica (originally played by Winona Ryder) and Selma Blair who will be playing Jade, Heather Duke’s stepmother.

The trailer was also released via Instagram earlier today and give us a couple of throwbacks to the original film.  Most notably, the use of one of the films most quotable lines, “well f–k me gently with a chainsaw!”  Check out the trailer below:
