The revival premiere of Will & Grace is just a little over a month away but the surprise and nostalgia keep on rolling in! This week, Debra Messing (who plays Grace on the series) revealed that yet another a fan favorite character from the original series will be returning for the revival.
That’s right! Harry Connick Jr. will be returning to the show and will be reprising his role as Leo though, we’re not yet sure in what capacity. Recently, it was confirmed that the revival series would be completely ignoring the ending of the original series which saw Grace and Leo get married and Will and Grace become estranged from each other.
Executive producer and creator David Kohan spoke with Entertainment Weekly about this situation:
“When the decision was made to bring the series back, we were like, well, we left them with kids, right? And if they have children, then it has to be about them being parents, ’cause presumably, it would be a priority in their lives. And if it wasn’t a priority in their lives, then they’re still parents, they’re just bad parents, right? We frankly did not want to see them being either good parents or bad parents. We wanted them to be Will and Grace.”
Either way, Messing posted an adorable photo to her Instagram this week showing Connick Jr.’s return and we just love seeing these two back together!
In addition to the casting news, NBC has released a brand new promo for the series. The promo shows Will (Eric McCormack), Grace (Messing), Jack (Sean Hayes) and Karen (Megan Mullally) all back together and up to their usual antics. In one hilarious moment in the promo, Jack discusses his online dating gripes with the app Grindr and, well, it’s just Jack being Just Jack!
Will & Grace will return on Thursday, September 28 at 9 pm ET on NBC. Check out the new promo below:
