Kevin Smith is All of Us Watching That Emotional Ending to 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2'

Sometimes, a certain film just hits you right in “the feels.”  No matter how many times you watch it, it doesn’t matter that you know how it ends or what happens, you still get emotional when a film hits that perfect trifecta of cinema – great writing, lovable characters and top-notch acting.  For filmmaker Kevin Smith, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 surpasses all of those requirements.

In a Facebook live video on Wednesday, Smith filmed himself watching the film, which he’s seen several times in theaters, for the first time at home.  His reaction to the ending was quite striking.  You know the scene we are talking about.  Yondu sacrifices himself to save Peter Quill and, well, that’s when the tears start rolling.  Check out Smith’s video below:

Smith, who is an acclaimed filmmaker himself, has nothing but praise for Guardians director James Gunn, speaking of how gifted he is to be able to compile a scene that’s so emotional and yet, at the very same moment, makes you chuckle.  He calls the film and that scene, in particular, a beautiful piece of writing.  He pays the film a HUGE compliment when he says:

“The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is one of the greatest moments in cinematic history.”

He goes on to praise the work of Michael Rooker who plays Yondu in the film.  We couldn’t think of anyone more perfect than him to play the role of Yondu and Smith certainly agrees.  He commented:

“If he [Rooker] doesn’t get at least nominated for an Academy Award, there’s no justice in the world.”

Word of the video made its way to James Gunn who of course was humbled by the compliments.  He shared the video via his social media pages calling it one of his favorite things on the internet:
