Did you see Tim Curry’s Pennywise in the new ‘IT’ Trailer?

If you’re anything like us, you’re still totally freaked by the IT trailer that dropped today. It was a terrifying blend of old and new with the Losers Club coming face to face with the entity that takes on the form of a clown to lure in children before killing them. Saying ‘frightened skin tastes better’.

While IT could have taken on the identity of anyone/thing, fans of the terrifying novel and film relate it to Pennywise, and Pennywise is synonymous with absolute fear. The 2017 version, at least, what we’ve seen of him so far is haunting, and Bill Skarsgård agrees.

It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane, It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates.’

Now, Bill is taking on the role of Pennywise in a big and unique way, but no one can forget Tim Curry’s Pennywise – including Bill, who says that was the big motivator for him being his own ‘version. The film also appears to play homage to Tim’s portrayal as a Pennywise doll is shown in the trailer.

If you blinked, you may have missed it, but when Pennywise runs at the camera, a doll of the older version is seen in the background, along with others that are almost as equally terrifying.

From the IT mini series to urban legends about clowns stealing children and hiding in forests (or like, when that really happened for a few months last year – we’re still scratching our heads about that) – clowns have never truly embodied the ‘friendly’ image they were intended to have.

Perhaps that was the wicked plan all along.
