SDCC: Jeffrey Dean Morgan on What Curse Words Negan Can and Cannot Say on ‘The Walking Dead’
Today is the day at San Diego Comic-Con! The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert and executive producer/director/special effects guru Greg Nicotero led the highly anticipated TWD panel which included the entire main cast of the series.
After debuting the absolutely insane first season 8 trailer, the panel opened up for a question and answer session from fans in the audience. One audience member approached the microphone and asked a question which had actually been a hot topic of discussion, particularly relating to the season 6 finale – What is Jeffrey Dean Morgan allowed to say and NOT say as everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed villain in The Walking Dead universe.
The season 6 finale, which aired on AMC was, of course, a cleaned up and censored version when it came to the language, however those who purchased the blu-ray were treated to full-blown Negan commentary with the most colorful language we’ve heard yet on the series.
So, just exactly how far can they go with the R-rated language that’s depicted in the comic books? And just how accurately can they translate that language to the television production? Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a pretty specific answer for that question. Morgan replied: “We are allowed 7 shits, like 1 goddamn, zero fucks.” An answer which caused the audience to erupt into laughter.
