SDCC: Darkwing Duck Confirmed For Ducktales Reboot!

I am the terror that flaps in the night,
I am…. the one who’s not at SDCC but is still reporting on everything being revealed!

Last week at D23, Ducktales executive producer Matt Youngberg and co-producer Francisco Angones said there’s always a chance related Duck-universe characters like Darkwing Duck could appear in the series. Hey, if the show’s a hit and gets multiple seasons/ spin-offs like the original, Darkwing is a definite right? Well we won’t have to wait that long considering at a panel today at SDCC, crowds were treated to a couple sneak peaks of the upcoming reboot. And who should be in that trailer?

That’s right! Mild-mannered Drake Mallard aka everyone’s favorite Bat-Duck superhero, Darkwing Duck! A couple months ago when they announced Gizmoduck, we pondered if Darkwing could make an appearance too. Then we learned that Darkwing and the gang would get their own POP figures this month. Coincidence? I think not! Either way, we have our answer!

Now since this was a quick sizzle reel of exciting things to look forward to, there wasn’t much plot – or timeline placement. As of the moment, we don’t know if Darkwing Duck will appear in the one-hour TV Movie premier of the series titled “Woo-oo!” (which airs on August 12th) or if he’ll appear somewhere in the series proper once it kicks off on September 23rd. All I know is, I’m excited!

But wait there’s more! This won’t just be a one-off cameo it seems as a Tweet from Inside The Magic – an ace outlet who covers everything Disney – says Darkwing’s villains will also be appearing in the show as well. Bushroot, Megavolt, Liquidator, Quackerjack and of course Negaduck are all rumored to be appearing. So many villains! If this is true, then will this be a couple of appearances or an actual mini story arc?

Now for those of you who don’t know, Darkwing Duck was originally a 1991 Spin-Off of Ducktales. Now whereas Scrooge and the gang didn’t appear in the show, Launchpad and Gizmoduck did. But who knows, maybe this foreshadows another Reboot for Darkwing Duck as well. Perhaps the shows will continue to crossover like how Arrow and The Flash do each year. All we know for sure is, watch Disney XD!
