What we Hope to see from the Premiere Season 8 Trailer of The Walking Dead

‘Do you seek to extinguish everything you were?’
‘I don’t seek it, but, I’m stuck.’

The dialogue between King Ezekiel and Morgan during ‘The First Day of the Rest of Your Life’ is definitely fitting for many characters in the series this season. It’s also fitting for the audience at home. When Negan started taking lives with Lucille in the first moments of the season opening, fans were distraught. The light in the eyes of the characters we love went out in front of our own eyes, it was really difficult to watch.

The season finale in its entirety was one of the hardest we’ve seen so far and it makes our hope for redemption even higher than it was before. It also has us hoping for a knock out season 8 trailer.

While Rick and the group had the strength and the determination to fight, even in their weakest moments in the season 7 finale, it was Ezekiel and Carol, Morgan and Maggie, and Shiva who truly come in and save the day at the last possible second. It made for gripping television, however, it left fans with their hearts in their throats.

In season 8, we want redemption for that moment – and while we’d love to see it in the trailer, the more we consider it, the more we want it in a moment of surprise and suspense instead. However, having one of those moments where it happens and we realize we saw a little bit of a hint in the big trailer would be a nice resolve.

We’d also like to see a telling moment for Morgan, he’s been one of our favorite characters through the entirety of the series and we want nothing more than for his story to continue, but some are wondering if his time is almost up. We want a glimpse, even if it’s small, that shows his will to stay – his will to live – his will to fight.

We want to see Negan look afraid too, even for a split second. Admittedly, he looked terrified when he saw Shiva, but he rode out of Alexandria with his middle finger up. He still feels untouchable. We want to see him in a moment of self-doubt, and if it were to be highlighted in the trailer, it would feel more real.

We also want to see part of the Daryl and Carol reunion that gave us that infamous still photo. They look deep in conversation, they look like they’re planning, and we want to know what they’re thinking.

We also want to see Rick react to Maggie’s speech at the end of the episode, the ode to her late husband. It was beautiful and heart-wrenching and it was everything that the show is built on.

Because Glenn decided to be there for you, that day a long time ago, that was the decision that changed everything.’

Finally, we hope to see…well…hope in the hearts of the characters we’ve grown to love as they unite as one to take down Negan and the Saviors.

What do you hope to see when the season 8 trailer drops at SDCC? Let us know.
