…and the Star Wars news just keeps on coming! On Friday at the D23 Expo, fans got the first look at the brand new Star Wars Land which is scheduled to open in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in 2019. On Saturday, D23 brought the house down by unveiling a sizzle reel of behind-the-scenes footage from the upcoming film The Last Jedi.
Director Rian Johnson was on hand to deliver the footage during a panel and was joined on stage by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Mark Hamill. The footage offers a light-hearted, fun and in-depth behind-the-scenes look at everything that went into creating this film. The clip did not offer any new footage from the film however, it was just as impactful. We literally had chills while watching it.
Perhaps the most poignant part of the clip comes at the very end and features the incomparable Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. Fisher sadly died after completing her filming for The Last Jedi and, seeing her image on film along with hearing her voice say, “It’s about family, and that’s what’s so powerful about it,” just brings tears to our eyes.
Plot details for The Last Jedi have been kept pretty quiet but, we can only hope that a new trailer is on its way in the very near future! Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the eighth episode in the franchise and will be hitting theaters on December 15, 2017. It will be here before you know it!
