7 Most Satisfying ‘Game of Thrones’ Deaths

7 Most Satisfying Game of Thrones Deaths

George R.R. Martin is notorious for showing no mercy when it comes to killing off characters in A Song of Ice and Fire, but sometimes those deaths aren’t heartbreaking (See “7 Game of Thrones Deaths We Still Aren’t Over”). In honor of the season seven premier Sunday, we’ve collected the seven most satisfying deaths so far.

1. Viserys Targaryen

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

Viserys was a terrible brother, selling and abusing his younger sister so that he could reclaim the Iron Throne. He was a representation of what was truly horrible about the Targaryens. His death was a quite terrible way to go, but really set the tone for how brutal the show could get with character deaths. One of the most memorable moments from season one for me.

2. Kraznys and the Astapor Slavers

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

We think that Daenerys has sold her dragon to the slavers of Astapor in exchange for the Unsullied and ships, but she had a trick up her sleeve the whole time. She commands her new army to kill the slavers, leaving innocents alive, and then orders Kraznys to be burned alive. This is the first moment when we realize the true wrath of Daenerys and it’s a really good scene.

3. Joffrey Baratheon

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

One of the most hated characters on the show, Joffrey was cruel and a brat. He ordered the murder of Eddard Stark, even though he had said he would show him mercy if he confessed his guilt. He terrorized just about everyone around him and was a coward. His death was terrible, but not many were sad to see him go.

4. Tywin Lannister

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

Another Lannister hits the dust. Tywin Lannister spent about 60% of his screen time insulting his son, Tyrion. So it was only fitting that Tyrion would be the one to take him out. Though the scene in the show was satisfying, it is even more so in the book as Tyrion throws a common saying about his father back in Twyin’s face.

5. Lysa Arryn

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

Lysa Arryn was not a good person. She refused to help her sister Catelyn when she asked for House Arryn to aid Robb. Her favorite mode of killing is through a trapdoor, dropping her victims hundreds of feet to their death, and even tries to kill her own niece that way. Lysa reaped what she sowed and was pushed through the Moon Door by Littlefinger.

6. Ramsay Bolton

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

Ramsay Bolton might have beaten out Joffrey as the most hated character in the history of Game of Thrones. Joffrey was cruel, but Ramsay took that to a whole new level. It would take forever to list all of the grievances against the bastard son of Roose Bolton. My favorite thing is that Sansa was the one who made the final decision to let him die. Another character to receive a death in the way they would frequently order upon others, this time via vicious dogs.

7. High Sparrow

7 Most Satisfying 'Game of Thrones' Deaths

The High Sparrow believed he was acting in the right and was above Cersei Lannister. He was a nuisance throughout seasons five and six, but eventually, his ego get the better of him. This scene also appears on the list of deaths we aren’t over yet because his arrogance led to the death of the only character who had kept pace with Cersei, Maergery Tyrell. The entire sequence was so well done that it bears repeating.
